VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks acquired a new top-tier goaltender Tuesday, signing free agent Ryan Miller to a three-year deal worth US$18 million. Colin Miller Jersey . The Canucks needed a proven netminder after trading Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo in the past 13 months and missing the playoffs this season. Miller was seen as the best goalie on the free-agent market. "I felt it was important to get a goalie with experience," said Canucks general manager Jim Benning. "Over the years hes played a lot of games. He gives us that experience that we need." Benning is familiar with the 33-year-old Miller, having worked in Buffalos scouting department when the Sabres drafted the player in 1999. "Hes intense and focused," said Benning. "Our younger players are going to see the way he works in practice, how hard be practises. Its going to make them better players." The St. Louis Blues acquired Miller from Buffalo in February, hoping he could lead them deep into the playoffs. But the club was eliminated by the Blackhawks in the first round after Miller allowed 19 goals and posted a lacklustre .897 save percentage. He posted a 25-30-4 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .918 save percentage this season. He has 294 wins, a 2.59 GAA with a .915 save percentage in 559 career NHL games. Despite his experience, Miller said he always sees himself as a work in progress. "I think Im still developing into the best player I can be," he said. "I take that part of hockey seriously, finding new things to add my game and taking consideration and coaching from other people." Miller said he has a fondness for Vancouver, especially after playing for the U.S. during the 2010 Winter Games. Sidney Crosby scored on Miller in overtime to lead Canada to victory in the Olympic gold-medal game at Rogers Arena. "Ive had a chance to experience Vancouver over the years and have always been blown away by the amount of support the fans the fans bring out and how great the crowds have been, also how kind the people have treated me over the years, especially during the Olympics," he said. "Its a great city for hockey, a great city to live in," he added. Benning has been busy over the past few days after trading forward Ryan Kesler just prior to the NHL draft. Its all part of a major rebuild for the Canucks, who have a new president in Trevor Linden, a new GM in Benning and a new coach in Willie Desjardins. Dale Hawerchuk Jersey . Players suspended during the season for a performance-enhancing drug violation will not be eligible for that years post-season. In addition, discipline will increase from 50 games to 80 for a first testing violation and from 100 games to a season-long 162 for a second. A third violation remains a lifetime ban. Ted Darling Jersey . The Blue Jackets got goals from Cam Atkinson, Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner and R.J. Umberger and Curtis McElhinney posted his first shutout since 2011 in a 4-0 victory on Friday night. https://www.cheapsabres.com/903v-brian-gionta-jersey-sabres.html . The Canadian Football Leagues all-time passing leader said he has not made a final decision, but he will discuss his future with Montreal Alouettes owner Bob Wetenhall on the weekend.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors stage their home opener Saturday night against the Los Angeles Lakers at Oracle Arena. The Warriors opened the season with a 95-77 drubbing of the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night at Sleep Train Arena. A lot of fun, said new head coach Steve Kerr. Every game is different in this league, we know that. But youve got to find a way to win and our guys did tonight. Stephen Curry filled the stat sheet Wednesday with 24 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and five assists. Klay Thompson had 19 points and six assists for Golden State, which fell to the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games during the first round of last seasons NBA playoffs. Marreese Speights provided 16 points off the bench and Draymond Green added 12 points and 10 boards in the triumph. Green started in place of the injured David Lee. A Rudy Gay dunk in transition off a Darren Collison steal staked the Kings to a 54-51 lead in the third before Golden State pulled away following a 19-2 run. The Warriors didnt shoot the ball great in game one. They shot 44 percent from the field and 22 percent from 3-point range, but held the Kings to 30.8 percent, 16.7 perceent from beyond the arc and forced a staggering 27 turnovers. Tim Horton Jersey. The Lakers will try to avoid going 0-4 for the first time since the 1957-58 squad dropped their first seven. That team was located in Minneapolis, but this LA version is struggling badly. The 2014-15 Lakers lost their third straight Friday night to the Los Angeles Clippers, 118-111. Jordan Hill paced the Lakers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, Kobe Bryant had 21 points and seven assists and Jeremy Lin contributed 17 points and nine assists. Our effort was great, Lakers head coach Byron Scott said. In the second half, we made a couple of boneheaded mistakes. Both teams were playing aggressive. The Lakers took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter, but their Staples Center co-tenants dominated the final stanza, 32-21. During those last 12 minutes, Bryant couldnt put his side on his back. The future Hall of Famer shot 1-for-7 from the floor. Golden State won three of four against the Lakers last season and has won four of the last six overall. The Warriors have taken three consecutive home contests against LA, but the Lakers are 13-5 in their last 18 at Oracle Arena. ' ' '

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. Y. A. Tittle Jersey . - The New Orleans Pelicans brought the hot Detroit Pistons back to earth. The Pistons came in having won of nine of 10, but were never competitive with New Orleans. Anthony Davis had 27 points and 10 rebounds as the Pelicans beat the Pistons 105-94 on Wednesday night. That was a bad performance, and we have to make sure it stops tonight, said Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy. We didnt do anything. We didnt rebound and we didnt protect the paint, which were two big areas of emphasis. We brought absolutely no energy whatsoever to the game. The Pelicans (19-19) were missing Jrue Holliday (ankle), but easily picked up their second win in five games. Tyreke Evans added 18 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Pelicans, while Ryan Anderson came off the bench to score 17.Brandon Jennings had 19 for the Pistons (14-25), while Greg Monroe had 16 points and eight rebounds and was the only other starter to reach double figures. The Pistons only managed three offensive rebounds in the game, usually a strength. That was unacceptable, said Monroe, who led the team in both rebounds and assists (five). We just gave them an easy win. We have to be a lot better than that. The Pelicans dominated the first half, with the exception of Detroits 6-0 run to end the first quarter. New Orleans led 58-36 at the intermission, helped in great part by a 36-point second period that saw them outrebound Detroit 14-2.We played the right way, said New Orleans coach Monty Williams. Thats the only way I can sum it up. We shared the ball; we defended the ball; we played in transition. The Pistons only managed 10 rebounds in the first half to 24 for New Orleans, and had just one second-chance opportunity despite missing 13 of their 15 jumpers in the opening two quarters. Andre Drummond struggled for Detroit, scoring only two points in 17 minutes and saw his team outscored by 21 points while he was on the floor. He didnt get better in the second half, and spent most of it on the bench. This is four games in a row where he hasnt had any energy, Van Gundy said. Tonight, he didnt even rebound. Thats why I didnt bring him back in the second half. He wasnt bringing us anything tonight.New Orleans stayed in control in the third quarter, and even when the Pelicans made mistakes, the Pistons couldnt capitalize. After one turnover, Kyle Singler led a Detroit fast break, only to pass the ball directly to New Orleans forward Dante Cunningham. Singler didnt hustle back on defence, leading to an open 3-pointer for the Pelicans. A furious Van Gundy yanked him from the game. The Pistons scored the final seven points of the period to pull within 83-66, but never posed a serious threat in the fourth. That was fun, said Pelicans guard Eric Gordon. Everyone was scoring and everyone was contributing.TIP-INSPELICANS: Nate Wolters joined the Pelicans on a 10-day contract, but did not play as Monty Williams stayed with his rotation until the final 25 seconds. Wolters had several memorable duals down the street at Oakland University while attending North Dakota State, and ended his college career at the Palace in an NCAA Tournament loss to Michigan.PISTONS: With Detroit playing its sixth game in nine nights, and both Spencer Dinwiddie and Gigi Datome in the D-League, it didnt take long for Van Gundy to empty his bench. Cartier Martin was the only player who hadnt gotten into the game by the end of the third, and he finished the game, but did not score.NEXT UP:Pelicans: Visit the 76ers on Friday.Pistons: Visit the Pacers on Friday. Joe Perry Jersey . Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers were left fretting over an MRI on the stars left knee. Paul George scored 21 points, Roy Hibbert added 19 and the Pacers used a dominant fourth quarter to blow out the Cavaliers 91-76 on Tuesday The Pacers (25-5) have won eight in a row over Cleveland, their longest active streak against any opponent. Nick Mullens Jersey . Listen to the Raptors vs. Jazz live tonight on TSN Radio 1050 at 9pm et/6pm pt. The Raptors are 1-1 so far on the five-game junket after defeating Denver and losing to Portland. https://www.49ersjerseysale.com/ . "Its way better than running gassers, thats for sure," the inside linebacker said Monday, when the Chargers started their third and final week of organized team activities, which are practices in shorts, jerseys and helmets.MADRID, Spain -- Barcelona came from behind for an easy 4-1 victory over Cartagena in the Copa del Rey on Friday to end a two-game losing streak. Carlos de Lerma struck after just six minutes to put the hosts ahead against the Spanish champions, who left Neymar on the bench. Despite missing injured trio Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona then simply overwhelmed its third-division opponents with its sheer attacking talent. Pedro Rodriguez scored either side of Cesc Fabregas second-half volley, and substitute Jean Dongou marked his debut with a late goal as Barcelona snapped out of its first slump of the season. "We were obliged to win considering who we are and where we come from," coach Gerardo Martino said. Six matches opened the round of 32, with Juan Carlos Garrido beginning his Real Betis coaching career with a win as the struggling Spanish league side beat 10-man Lleida 2-1. None of the lower-tier clubs emerged victorious on Friday as Real Betis and Sevilla coming away from their first legs with away wins. De Lerma latched on to a bouncing ball inside the area to fire Cartagena ahead, and the hosts should have had a second 10 minutes later only Fernando Rodriguez shot wide. "They played a very intense game, they didnt stop running and showed a great attitude for the first 15 to 20 minutes," Martino said. "But after that when we controlled possession we took the legs out from under Cartegena.&qquot; But Barcelona -- which had Jordi Alba return for the first time since September -- continued to pressure with its speed and combinations, with Alexis Sanchez and Pedro guilty of glaring misses before Fabregas sprung Pedro with a through ball to score from in the 36th. Tim Rattay Jersey. Fabregas volleyed Adrianos cross into the top corner to put Barcelona ahead just before the break. Sanchez re-directed Pedros cross over an empty goal just before the Chile striker put Pedro through to score in the 75th with a slick dummy around goalkeeper Jesus Limones. Dongou came on for Alexis and the Cameroon teenager latched on to Pedros shot as it came off the post in the 90th for his first goal. Lleida goalkeeper Pau Torres was red-carded in the fourth minute and his replacement, Fran Perales, saved the ensuing penalty from Jorge Molina. But Joan Verdu scored the next penalty in the 27th to put Betis ahead, and Molina made up for his earlier miss in the 42nd after a gaffe by Perales. Despite Betis scoring two away goals, Lleida pulled a goal back through Pere Milla in the 57th to stay in the second leg. Garrido replaced Pepe Mel on Monday with Betis bottom of the first division. Elsewhere, Algeciras rallied to draw 1-1 against Real Sociedad, 10-man Sevilla won 1-0 at Racing Santander, and Elche has the edge after drawing 2-2 at Villarreal in a matchup of topflight clubs. Rayo Vallecano and Valladolid drew 0-0 in the other topflight matchup. ' ' '

CHARLOTTE, N. Emily Fox Jersey .C. -- NASCAR suspended Denny Hamlins crew chief and car chief on Tuesday for six races because the Joe Gibbs Racing entry failed inspection following his third-place finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Darian Grubb and Wesley Sherrill were both suspended through the Sept. 6 race at Richmond. Grubb, the crew chief, was also fined $125,000. It strips Hamlin of two vital crew members during the stretch of the season he would be putting the finishing touches on preparations for NASCARs title-deciding, 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Grubb and Sherrill, who also each received six months probation, are not eligible to return until the Chase opener, Sept. 14 at Chicago. JGR said in a statement it will appeal the penalty, but Grubb and Sherrill will begin serving their suspensions immediately. Under NASCAR rules, suspended competitors can compete until the appeal process is complete, but delaying sitting out would extend the suspensions into the Chase should JGR not get portions of the penalty overturned. Also, Hamlin and team owner Joe Gibbs were docked 75 points apiece in the driver and owner standings. It dropped Hamlin from 11th to 21st in the Sprint Cup standings. But, as a race winner already this season, Hamlin is likely guaranteed a spot in the 16-driver Chase field. Hamlins car failed post-race inspection Sunday because NASCAR said it found issues with several of the covers in the rear firewall of the driver compartment. Loose or missing covers could vent the driver compartment and create more downforce for the car. The penalty was considered a P5 infraction under the scale NASCAR implemented this season. It clearly defines penalties and their punishments on a P1 to P6 scale. Penalties found post-race are subjected to an additional 25 point deduction and an increase of the fine by up to $50,000 than if they would have been found before the race. NASCAR has deemed a P5 penalty so serious, it does not consider intent. "P5 penalties, in general, are extremely serious," the rule book states. "They represent other key safety areas not mentioned elsewhere in this (penalty) section and potentially performance-related areas of the car that might or might not afford a competition advantage, but with a violation occurring in such a fashion that it would be naive to attribute the violation to an accident, omission, or misunderstanding, even if it was an accident, omission, or misunderstanding." Kristie Mewis Jersey . Here are some of the best from Week One and some to watch in Week Two: TOP PERFORMERS Anthony Allen, RB, Saskatchewan (176 YDS, 2 TD, 30 touches vs. Hamilton) - Powerfully-built back burst onto the scene in his CFL debut, after a couple of years in the NFL, playing 21 games with the Baltimore Ravens. Only it wasnt the extended right pad of his old teammate Jonathan Bernier early in the final frame, it was James Reimer, who stole a night that was supposed to belong to the former King.CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Lyle Overbay walked into the clubhouse and pointed toward pitcher Wily Peraltas locker. "Hes over there," the first baseman said. "You dont need to talk to anybody else." Indeed, Peralta did it all as the majors top team won again. Peralta doubled home two runs -- the first RBIs of his career -- and repeatedly escaped trouble during his eight innings on Friday night, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 2-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. "When youre able to pitch like that and youre able to swing the bat, sometimes thats what you need," Peralta said. The NL Central leaders improved the best record in the majors to 21-9 and opened a 7 1/2-game lead over Cincinnati. The Brewers are 12-3 on the road. Peralta (4-1) made his fifth quality start of the season, holding the Reds to three hits and a pair of walks while throwing 110 pitches. Francisco Rodriguez retired the three batters he faced for his 14th save in as many chances. Peralta doubled with two outs in the fifth off Mike Leake (2-3), who left his first pitch over the plate. Leake gave up seven hits and fanned five as he went eight innings for the second time this season. "Today, he was their hero," Reds catcher Brayan Pena said. "He pitched good and got the double." Right fielder Ryan Braun missed his sixth game with a sore muscle on his right side. The Brewers will decide this weekend whether hes close to returning or needs time on the disabled list. Peralta put the Brewers ahead with his 10th career hit. Overbay opened the fifth with a single and Caleb Gindl walked with one out. Jean Segura forced Gindl at second, bringing up Peralta, who had struck out in his first at-bat. He doubled to right field on the first pitch. Peralta is 10 for 72 in his career with 30 strikeouts. "He was throwing the ball well," Peralta said. "I just went up there and guessed hed throw me a fastball right down the middle, and I put a pretty good swing on it." Peralta made it stand up by esscaping scoring threats in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Cindy Parlow Cone Jersey. He fanned Jay Bruce three times with runners in scoring position. Bruce also struck out in the ninth. "He had a great fastball," manager Ron Roenicke said. "His slider was outstanding. He threw a couple of changeups, not many. And his swing ... he had a great swing and we certainly needed it." Reds leadoff hitter Billy Hamilton was out of the lineup with a sore left hand, which he sprained while making a diving catch during Cincinnatis 8-3 win in the series opener Thursday night. He was available to pinch-run. Joey Votto, robbed at the top of the wall by centre fielder Carlos Gomez on Thursday night, hit a flyball that deflected off the top of the wall in left field and bounced back into play in the fourth inning. Votto wound up with a double, and the call was upheld upon review. Votto was stranded at second. "I thought it was gone," Peralta said. "Its hard for me to tell from the mound, but I thought it was a home run." The Reds put runners on second and third with two outs in the fifth when Ramon Santiago drew a walk and Segura threw wildly to first on Leakes grounder to shortstop. Peralta retired Chris Heisey on a grounder to end the inning. NOTES: Yovani Gallardo (2-0) faces Johnny Cueto (2-2) in the third game of the series. Cueto has allowed only one run in his last 30 innings. ... The Reds made it a "Star Wars" theme night. ... It was Milwaukees third shutout. The Reds were blanked for the fourth time. ... Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez extended his slump to 0 for 29. ... The Brewers put reliever Jim Henderson on the 15-day DL with a sore shoulder. Gindl was called up from Triple-A Nashville. ... Reds closer Aroldis Chapman will pitch another inning for Class-A Dayton at Lake County on Saturday, then join Triple-A Louisville to continue his rehab assignment. Berkeley, CA (SportsNetwork. Larry Jordan Jersey Store .com) - Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer saddled three horses for Saturdays $100,000 California Derby at Golden Gate Fields, and it was his Cross the Line that gave the conditioner an eighth win in the stakes. Breaking from the inside post in the eight-horse field, Cross the Line and jockey Juan Hernandez stalked the pace going up the backstretch in the 1 1/16- mile stakes. Cross the Line, co-owned by Hollendorfer, went wide around the final turn to engage 42-1 longshot Midnight Destiny for the lead. Hollendorfers colt went past the longshot and posted a 1 3/4-length victory, followed by 2-1 favorite Soul Driver and stablemate Stand and Salute. Completing the order of finish were Broughton Kitten, Steel, Midnight Destiny, Sandor the Hound and Rye Patch. Steel was Hollendorfers third horse in the race. The time for the Cal Derby was 1:44.79 on Golden Gates synthetic main track. The California Derby is the local prep for the $200,000 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate. The El Camino Real Derby is part of the Road to the Kentucky Derby series. Cross the Line, the 9-2 fourth choice, registered his second career win in his fourth start. The $60,000 from Saturdays victory puts his earnings at $83,920. Hollendorfer has now won the event four straight years with earlier wins from Russian Greek (2012), Zeewat (2013) and Exit Stage Left (2014). The trainer also found the winners circle with Cause to Believe (2006), Chocolate Candy (2009), Pike Place Dancer (1996) and Bwana Bull (2007). Cross The Line returned $11.40, $4.80 and $3.60. Soul Driver paid $3.60 and $2.80, and Stand And Salute paid $3.00 to show. Mack Strong Jersey Store . - For a general manager who preaches building through the draft, Reggie McKenzie has struggled to find impact players his first two years in Oakland. Don Wells Jersey Store . PETERSBURG, Fla. https://www.chinacheapjerseys.net/walt-schupp-jersey-store/ . -- DeMarcus Cousins had 25 points and 16 rebounds to help the Sacramento Kings snap a seven-game losing streak by defeating the Chicago Bulls 99-70 on Monday night.RENTON, Wash. -- Back from their bye week, with the best record in the NFL and heading into a Monday night showdown with the Saints, Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks spent Tuesday dealing with the kinds of distractions they believed were over. Instead, the Seahawks are adding to the list of player suspensions theyve faced since Carroll took over in 2010. "Were still trying to work through it. Ill say it again, Ive always found myself looking for guys that maybe other people dont see something special in and we take a chance on a guy here or there that needs some extra consideration and care," Carroll said. "And sometimes guys they have issues and things pop up but Ive always been kind of hopeful and make guys find the best in them and bring it out. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesnt. Well certainly hang with our guys and take care of them." Starting cornerback Walter Thurmond was officially suspended Tuesday by the NFL for the teams next four games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy, leaving the Seahawks short-handed going into Mondays matchup against New Orleans. Thurmond will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, Dec. 23, before the final game of the regular season, but his absence leaves a hole in a secondary that was previously missing starting cornerback Brandon Browner because of a groin injury. Thurmonds suspension was first reported by NFL.com over the weekend. Thurmond took to Twitter and apologized on Sunday, writing, "Yes I made a mistake and I have to live with the consequences. Im disappointed in myself for letting my teammates and family down." Thurmonds is the sixth Seattle player officially suspended for substance-abuse or performance-enhancing drugs violations by the league since 2011. That doesnt include Richard Sherman, whose suspension was overturned on appeal late last season. "I dont know that we can expect to be perfect. We would like to be, but that isnt the case," Carroll said. "Its a big challenge for these guys to do right and we want them to do it and carry through and be there when we need them and count on them. It doesnt always work that way. It presents opportunities for other guys. Weve always championed that and our guys have always come through and theyll do that again in this instance." Thurmond has started three games this season for Seattle, including the teams last game against Minnesota when he had his first interception of the season and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown. Even when he wasnt starting, Thurmond was a critical member of one of the NFLs best secondary units as the fifthh defensive back in passing situations. Dennis McKinnon Jersey Store. Thurmond beat out veteran Antoine Winfield, whom Seattle signed in the off-season, for the nickel cornerback spot during training camp. He had struggled with injuries throughout his career but was finally healthy and playing well ahead of an off-season where he will be a free agent. Seattle moved quickly to fill Thurmonds roster spot, signing veteran Perrish Cox, who worked out for the team recently after being released by San Francisco on Nov. 12. Cox played in 25 games over two seasons with the 49ers in a reserve role after starting nine games for Denver in 2010. Seattle had also worked out former cornerback Marcus Trufant, who has not played this season, before deciding on signing Cox. The Seahawks are likely to lean on young backups Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane. Maxwell had been seeing more playing time, especially on passing downs when Thurmond would move inside to cover slot receivers. Lane started three games late last season when Browner was serving a four-game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs and Thurmond was injured. Carroll also indicated that DeShawn Shead will be promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, but that move was not made official on Tuesday. Presumably, Sheads promotion will coincide with a roster move involving Browner, who is also reportedly facing a suspension for a substance-abuse violation. Shead can play both cornerback and safety. Its his second season with the Seahawks, most of that spent on the practice squad. He was added to the 53-man roster late last season but was inactive for each game. Hes been getting paid this season at the same rate as a second-year player on the 53-man roster according to the NFLPA database. Carroll said despite the continued problems he doesnt believe his message or approach needs to change. "Well always look to do it better. Were on it. I think this team is very strong about where were going and what were doing. Because somebody slips, that doesnt mean were not on track," Carroll said. "I believe were on a tremendous track right now. The focus around here, the dedication to what were doing, the standard that we hold them to in all areas. Look at where we are; were exemplary in many, many areas and were really proud of it. But that doesnt mean somebody is not going to slip and make a mistake now and then." NOTES: Seattle WR Percy Harvin was held out of practice on Tuesday. Carroll reiterated that Harvin is day to day. ... WR Jermaine Kearse did practice after suffering a concussion in Seattles Week 11 win over Minnesota. ' ' '

Lynsey Armitage proudly represents Team Northumbria as the oldest player in the Superleague and hopes to make her experience count against Surrey Storm. Air Jordan 6 Sale . The 40-year-old former England player is expected to feature on the court when Team Northumbria take on reigning champions Surrey on Monday night, live on Sky Sports 2 from 7.30pm.Armitage admits she could not resist a call to compete in the Vitality Superleague again and the seasoned shooter believes she offers a different attacking option to Team Northumbria. It was too good of an opportunity to say no, said Armitage. I still captain a Premier League side, but to get asked to come back and play Superleague, why would you say no to it?Its a fantastic opportunity, not only to play netball, but also introduce a different style of play to a team that hasnt got a tall shooter. Its a little bit of a learning curve for the Northumbria girls as well, because they are all quite young. (SportsNetwork. Zeke Bratkowski Jersey .com) - The struggling Ottawa Senators will try to get back on track when they welcome the Detroit Red Wings for Tuesdays clash at Canadian Tire Centre. Ottawa opened the season with a 4-1-0 record, but has posted only one victory over its last five outings, going 1-2-2 during the stretch. Coincidentally, the downturn has come directly after the Senators had a home game with Toronto postponed on Oct. 22 due to the shooting death of a Canadian solider in downtown Ottawa. The Sens hope to right the ship on home ice, where they have yet to lose in regulation this season. Ottawa is 2-0-2 as the host and is kicking off a four- game homestand tonight. The residency ends on Nov. 9 with the rescheduled meeting against Toronto. However, Tuesdays contest may not offer the best opportunity for Ottawa to bounce back after two consecutive losses. The Sens have dropped six of their last eight meetings against Detroit and the Red Wings have claimed four straight in Canadas capital city. After getting dealt a shootout loss by visiting Chicago on Thursday, Ottawa hit the road and lost a 4-2 decision Saturday in Boston. The score was tied at 1-1 after 20 minutes but Matt Fraser scored twice in the second period to put the Bruins ahead for good. Mark Stone and Mika Zibanejad both lit the lamp in the loss, and Robin Lehner made 26 saves for the Senators. There were stretches of the game that I thought we played well, said Stone. We werent structurally sound tonight. The Red Wings also hope to rebound from a loss tonight, having dropped a 3-2 shootout decision Sunday in Buffalo. Zemgus Girgensons scored the winner in the decisive phase to halt Detroits two-game winning streak. In the third round, Girgensons deked back to the forehand and lifted the puck into the left corner of the net. Michal Neuvirth preserved the win by not biting on Henrik Zetterbergs fake and making the stop. Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist and Tomas Tatar also lit the lamp for the Red Wings. Jimmy Howard finished the contest with 19 stops. Detroit fired 38 shots on net in the loss, which came at the start of a three- game road trip. Its not like we did everything terrible, said Red Wings coach Mike Babcock. When a team plays the night before you should jump all over them. Datsyuk has been on a tear so far this season, posting a point in all six of his games after missing the start of 2014-15 with a separated shoulder. He has five goals and five assists and was named the NHLs Second Star of the Week on Monday. Craig Anderson will get the start in net for Ottawa. He is 3-5-0 with a 2.91 goals against average in his career versus Detroit. Howard will start for the Red Wings and he is 3-2-0 with a 3.78 GAA against the Senators. Jim McMahon Jersey . The 2014 edition will be the ninth meeting between the Caps and Vikes in a tradition that dates back to 2005. "Since the original Whitecaps, the club has enjoyed fantastic support from fans in Victoria and all across Vancouver Island," said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi. Both the top-seeded Djokovic and sixth-seeded Fish took relatively easy paths, with the Serb winning when opponent Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired in the second set with a sore arm and Fish dominating Janko Tipsarevic in two quick sets.NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Pelicans and Louisiana-based Smoothie King have reached a 10-year agreement to rename the New Orleans Arena as the Smoothie King Center. Pelicans President Dennis Lauscha said such a deal had been a "gigantic" piece of owner Tom Bensons business plan since he bought the long-struggling small-market franchise from the NBA in the spring of 2012. "Finding a naming rights partner was key to the long-term financial viability of this franchise in this market," Lauscha said. Benson, who has owned the Saints since 1985, purchased citys NBA franchise — formerly called the Hornets — for $338 million and has consolidated the headquarters and many of the business operations of both clubs. The hope was that with the two franchises sharing resources and cross-promoting one another, the region could better support two major professional sports teams. Officials with both the club and Smoothie King declined to release financial terms of the deal, which also gives Smoothie King an option for a 10-year extension. Smoothie King owner Wan Kim said sponsoring an NBA arena in New Orleans helps his company demonstrate its commitment to the community where it is based while promoting its brand globally. Smoothie King, founded in suburban New Orleans in 1973, has 674 locations in 31 states and in Asia, and is looking to expand both nationally and overseas, Smoothie King President Tom OKeefe said. Of 30 NBA cities, 21 currently have Smoothie King franchises, he said. The arena is officially being renamed on Thursday, in time for next weeks NBA All-Star festivities in New Orleans. Kim, a native of South Korea who attended college and business school in the United States, bought the company in July 2012. He said he initially considered moving its headquarters to Atlantta or Dallas. Jay Hilgenberg Jersey. "I started to realize a lot of people who live in New Orleans, for them, its very difficult to leave the city," Kim said. "Its a very different city. Its very unique, culturally, and I did start to see why people didnt want to move. "At the same time, I did feel our root is here and I shouldnt give up on that," Kim said. "Not only did we decide not to move out, but we are pretty much telling you (with the naming rights deal) that our group is here and we are sticking with it." As part of the agreement, Smoothie King will be airing commercials during Pelicans broadcasts, as well as sponsoring pregame and postgame segments. The companys smoothies will also be available at concession stands around the arena. Team officials said there were "two or three" other candidates for a naming rights deal, but that Smoothie Kings interests seemed most aligned with the Bensons goals of promoting the business climate in his home state. "Theres no more perfect story to say how businesses can root themselves in New Orleans and grow," said Rita Benson LeBlanc, Bensons granddaughter and a part owner of the Pelicans and Saints. She added that the agreement is "a testament to how New Orleans has recovered (from Hurricane Katrina) and how Louisiana is redefining itself as an economic development engine." The deal might have been completed before this season began, but because Smoothie King products contain nutritional supplements, NBA rules required that all of the companys products be tested to ensure there were no banned substances. LeBlanc said that process took about eight months. "We couldnt have any question as to what are the contents of the products that Smoothie King actually offers," LeBlanc said. ' ' '

Sharapova, the 2008 champion and this years third seed, outlasted Italys Karin Knapp 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 in a 3 1/2-hour marathon second-round match that was played in sweltering heat before the roof was closed at Rod Laver Arena. "Im really happy to get through," said Sharapova. "I really am. I worked really hard in the last few months and I wanted this match. I didnt play my best tennis. I didnt do many things well. I got through it, and sometimes thats whats important." Also getting through to the third round were Victoria Azarenka and Agnieszka Radwanska, but in much easier fashion. Azarenka, the two-time defending champion and second seed, claimed a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, while the fifth-seeded Radwanska notched a 6-0, 7-5 win over Olga Govortsova. Sharapova and Knapp opened play Thursday at Laver Arena and the decision to close the roof and halt action on the outer courts because of oppressive heat was made during the match. Rules, therefore, stipulated that the match conclude before the roof could be closed. The two gutted it out through a 108-degree temperature with high humidity. Knapp had Sharapova on the ropes in the third set, holding an 8-7 lead, but the Russians experience came through down the stretch. After holding serve for 8-8, Sharapova broke Knapp to go on top before the four-time Grand Slam champ closed out the contest on her serve. It wasnt easy, however, as Sharapova gave Knapp three points with double-faults in the 18th game before finally prevailing on her fourth match point when Knapp missed on a backhand. "I was up a set and a break and I had many opportunities to finish the match faster," noted Sharapova. "So I would have loved for it to finish faster, but thats what I got and I have to deal with the circumstances. Im all right with that. Im a competitor here, and I worked hard to get through that match. I will have to work just as hard to get through the next ones." Next up for Sharapova, who was an Aussie Open runner-up in 2007 and 2012, will be 25th-seeded Alize Cornet of France after she earned a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 decision over Italys Camila Giorgi. Azarenka, who beat Sharapova for the 2012 title, opened the night session and played under the roof at Laver Arena. She had little trouble in a 34-minute first set, but struggled to polish off Zahlavova Strycova, needing nearly an hour to win the second set. "There was just a moment when I just felt I dropped my intensity a little bit and was watching her a little bit too much," said Azarenka about the second set. "Im glad I could just turn it around in the end and really get back into it and play the way I was playing in the first set." Azarenka will encounter Austrian Yvonne Meusburger in the round of 32. Radwanska had a similar match on Thursday, winning 25 off the 34 points played in a 24-minute first set. Balenciaga Speed Trainer Discount. Govortsova made the four-time Aussie Open quarterfinalist work in the second set before ultimately falling. "I started really well today," said Radwanska, who also was able to play indoors at Hisense Arena. "I think then she tried to play more aggressive in the second set and I think I did step backwards, unfortunately. Suddenly I was a break down. But just very happy that I could manage to win that second set and finish the match." Next for Radwanska will be Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Luxembourgs Mandy Minella. Former world No. 1s Jelena Jankovic and Caroline Wozniacki also advanced, as did American Sloane Stephens. The eighth-seeded Jankovic thumped Japans Ayumi Morita 6-2, 6-0, while the 10th-seeded Wozniacki went the distance in a 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 triumph over American Christina McHale. Stephens, seeded 13th this year after her surprising semifinal run last year, rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Croatias Ajla Tomljanovic. Up next for Jankovic will be Japans Kurumi Nara, who took out 32nd-seeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova 6-4, 6-3, while Wozniacki will next play Spains Garbine Muguruza, a 6-3, 6-3 victor over Slovakias Anna Schmiedlova, and Stephens will next face Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, who advanced with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Australias Olivia Rogowska. The hot Muguruza is fresh off her first-ever WTA title in Hobart last week. Eleventh-seeded Romanian Simona Halep bounced back from a slow start against American Varvara Lepchenko to claim a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win, setting up a third- round matchup with Kazakhstans Zarina Diyas, who downed New Zealands Marina Erakovic by a 6-4, 6-0 margin. Carla Suarez Navarro needed a late rally to fend off Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan, as the 16th-seeded Spaniard secured her place in the next round with a 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 8-6 victory. Slovakias Dominika Cibulkova, the 20th seed, awaits Suarez Navarro in the third round after cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Swiss Stefanie Voegele, and the aforementioned Meusburger dismissed 33rd-seeded Serb Bojana Jovanovski 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The excessive heat forced play on the outer courts to be suspended for a few hours and rain also delayed play. The third round will commence Friday, including matches for five-time champion Serena Williams and two-time Aussie Open runner-up Li Na. The world No. 1 and reigning U.S. and French Open champion Williams will face 31st-seeded Slovak Daniela Hantuchova, while the fourth-seeded Li will battle 26th-seded Czech Lucie Safarova. Li lost to Azarenka in last years Melbourne finale. Also on Friday, last weeks Sydney runner-up, ninth-seeded German Angelique Kerber, will meet upstart American Alison Riske and 14th-seeded former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic will tangle with 17th-seeded former U.S. Open champ and heavy Aussie crowd favorite Sam Stosur. The former French Open winner Ivanovic was an Aussie Open runner-up to Sharapova in 2008. ' ' '

After an emotionally charged night at BC Place on Saturday when Vancouver Whitecaps beat Colorado Rapids to secure a place in the MLS Playoffs, Carl Robinsons men now face another must-win encounter as they open the postseason in Dallas on Wednesday night in the Knockout Round. Al-Farouq Aminu Jersey . It is the Whitecaps second appearance in the playoffs since joining Major League Soccer in 2011. Their last trip to the postseason lasted just 90 minutes when they were beaten by an LA Galaxy side that went on to win the MLS Cup. This time around, the Whitecaps are in much better shape heading into the playoffs after finishing the season well. The Form: The Whitecaps ended the season as one of the hottest teams in Major League Soccer, unbeaten in five games with four wins and a tie. During that time, they have beaten three teams above them in the Western Conference and have been very good defensively. In fact, the Whitecaps enter the playoffs having had four clean sheets in a row. It is 393 minutes since the Caps last conceded a goal but Kendall Waston and company will be faced with a very difficult challenge against a potent Dallas attack. Carl Robinsons squad has a fantastic team spirit and they will go into the match in a confident mood, having shown they have the ability to get big results away from home when they beat Seattle 1-0 three weeks ago. They finished the season with what Robinson described as five Cup finals so have now become used to dealing with the pressure of having no margin for error. Dallas fell to a surprise 2-0 defeat to Portland on the final day of the regular season. Had they won that game, Oscar Parejas men would have avoided having to play in the Knockout Round. Before that loss, they set a new club record of eight home wins in a row. They won 12 of their 17 home matches during the regular season. The Texas club had some good and bad spells during the year - they were winless in eight matches in late April and throughout May, but also had a 10-match unbeaten run in late spring and early summer during which time they won six of seven matches. The Big Question: Can the Whitecaps win the midfield battle? When the Whitecaps won in Seattle, Matias Laba and Russell Teibert were magnificent in midfield. They helped ensure there was no space for Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins to take advantage of. They were first to every ball, breaking up play and frustrating the Sounders. If Robinson sticks with the 4-2-3-1 formation he has utilized the last few weeks, Laba and Teiberts roles will be key to Vancouvers chances. Kendall Waston and Andy OBrien have struck up an excellent partnership in central defence, but having Laba and Teibert in front of them certainly helps. Further forward, Pedro Morales will need to be influential if the Caps are to dominate the midfield. On Saturday, he was excellent against Colorado, dropping deep to get involved, and getting the Caps going forward with his excellent range of passing. There have been times away from home this season when Morales has struggled. On Wednesday in Dallas, he needs to be at his best. The Opposition: FC Dallas finished fourth in the Western Conference, four points ahead of the Whitecaps to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 2011. Their haul of 54 points set a new club record for points in a season. Panama international Blas Perez led the way with 11 goals during the regular season and has been a constant threat to the Whitecaps in previous matches over the last couple of years. He always seems to find a way to grab a goal and has three against Vancouver this season, including two in the win against the Caps in Frisco in September. Dallas have a very good home record and much of that comes down to the attacking pieces they have within their squad. Along with Perez, they also get attacking production from the likes of Fabian Castillo, Mauro Diaz, Andres Escobar and David Texeira. When they are on form, they are very difficult to stop. Dallas finished the season with 55 goals to tie the club record for most goals scored in a season. The Lineup: The Whitecaps will have to make at least one change with right back Steven Beitashour ruled out with a hamstring injury that forced him to leave the win over Colorado during the first half. There are two options for Robinson. He could do what he did on Saturday and bring in teenager Sam Adekugbe at left back, but that also means switching Jordan Harvey across to the right back position. Robinson describes Adekugbe as something special, and theres no doubt he has all the tools needed to become a top class fullback. He showed that in the game on Saturday, having come on in a high pressure situation. He also gives the Caps an added dimension going forward. The other option is to bring in Ethen Sampson who played in Dallas last month, Sampson hasnt seen many minutes this season, but on the two occasions he started for the Caps, he certainly didnt let himself down. He is also the kind of player who will relish the expected physical nature of the game ahead. Losing Beitashour is a blow for Vancouver as he has been extremely reliable all season long, but Robinson has two solid replacements available. The Odds: The three matches between the teams this season have been split. The Whitecaps beat Dallas 2-0 at BC Place earlier this month, and were by far the better side in July despite only tying the game 2-2. Dallas won 2-1 last month in the only previous meeting in Texas this season. Dallas will go into the match as favourites due to their excellent home record and Vancouvers five straight losses in their previous visits to Frisco, but when the Whitecaps were in Dallas last month, they played well and were unfortunate to lose. It could be a long night. Im expecting a hard-fought, close encounter that has the potential to go all the way to extra time and penalties. These two teams dont like each other, so there is a chance of fireworks. Seattle awaits the winner in a two-leg conference semifinal. Where to Watch: The match will be broadcast live on TSN1. The man in the cafe. The policeman on the street. The lady at the hairdressers. And the lads outside the pub. Hot drinks being spat all over England. Jermain Defoe to Toronto FC? No way. It couldnt be. It was last October when Ryan Nelsen shifted his head immediately from the table and looked right at me in disbelief. I had asked him what he thought a player like Defoe would do in MLS. Jermain Defoe in this league? My goodness - incredible player, Nelsen raved. One of the most natural goal scorers I have ever come across. Always out training, always trying to score, a great guy. To get a guy like Defoe for MLS, I cannot think of many that are more suited. It would be incredible, he said. Incredible? More like incredulous. A year is a long time in sports. In fairness anyone who would have argued differently with Nelsens assessment would have needed a dose of reality. Here was a club with an identity of being losers targeting a striker who had scored at every level. How could a bunch of guys who had struggled to get attention suddenly make a hot shots head turn? Well, it happened. An unlikely relationship was formed between water, brought together by Drake, a man who could widen the eyes of Defoe and make him believe everything he was sold on. Major League Soccer stood at the altar as a long-distance marriage was approved. We now pronounce you club and star DP signing. It would be a match that needed equal amounts of dedication and love on both sides. Headed where nobody took it, who meetin me there? They tel him that hes talkin crazy but he doesnt care. - Drake The first glimpse of the city of Toronto for Defoe came after he signed. The club proudly tweeted a picture of him leaning towards the car window to look at the stadium when he arrived. For a short while he was a celebrated pioneer but it was never going to be easy for him after he committed to love something he had never seen. Its one thing to flirt after a blind date but this was supposed to be more than just the football equivalent of a one-night stand. With little foundation it came as no surprise that the relationship started to sour quickly. Better late than never but never late is better. - Drake Defoe was brilliant on the pitch early in the season, scoring goals no previous Toronto player would have come close to whilst rescuing points for the club out of nothing. It was a spectacular romance, a honeymoon period that led to many fantasies. Eventually, though, every dreamer has to wake up. Injuries meant long layoffs and without the distraction of playing, the Englishmans mind would wander. Defoe pined for home and this was portrayed as a bad thing rather than it being communicated as a natural human reaction. His new family tried to help and even invited his old one over for a friendly game to celebrate. Defoe seemed happy. For a night. He would then spend long stretches away from the club to seek medical advice, yet during this time the relationship started to get worse. At no point did the two sit down publicly and explain why he was where he was. On the day Nelsen was fired the bigger story was around the potential sale of the former Tottenham man and his whereabouts. Drew Gooden Jersey. But get it while you here boy/Cause all that hype dont feel the same next year boy. - Drake The love affair was heading to an explosive divorce. In fact, the day before the transfer window closed the club could not confirm if Defoe would definitely stay. Onlookers were stunned. There had been no public admittance of Defoe missing home, or wanting to end his long-term commitment inside year yet suddenly the relationship was tearing apart. When the window closed, Defoe stayed but the writing was on the wall. But I need someone different. You know it, oh oh you know it. Oh oh you know it. We both know it. - Drake Defoe was no longer the only one looking to split up. We only want people who want to be here, was heard so often from the club that it replaced the Why cant we be great? slogan so often used around previously. Suddenly it made sense. Defoe had been fantastic when fit and ineffective when injured. It was common sense to listen to offers for him. Two sides ready for a change and move on. Simple? Not quite. After they had both given a masterclass in silence being deafening all summer they decided now was a good time to talk. Everybody talks and everybody listens. But somehow the truth just always comes up missing. - Drake Defoe went first. “It was frustrating when I was home seeing certain things—people questioning if [I was] really injured. It’s frustrating when people doubt you, when you’re dealing with a real injury and especially for someone like me who loves playing football,” he said Thursday. The club went a step further. Much of this saga is outlined in Fridays report in the Toronto Sun that Defoes mother was central to much of the fractions between the club and the player. Now the gloves were off. So much for an amicable parting. It didnt have to end like this. Defoes commitment and health has been questioned by fans and many members of the media but this latest report will hurt him the most. By targeting the woman who he loves the most, the club will mean nothing to him from now on. There will be many that will be disappointed with the allegations made against his mom in the report but they should be more alarmed by the story itself. Defoe is weeks away from becoming an ex-TFC player. Meanwhile, the club will carry on and has a reputation to rebuild. Leaks to the press about what a player has been up to when he is already leaving is nothing more than a childish way of trying to win the battle of public opinion. Defoe has played his final game for Toronto FC and the two will part less than a year after falling for each other. The striker will fall for someone else and spend the rest of his career getting injured and scoring a lot of goals. He leaves behind him a club that still has many things to learn. Tables turn, bridges burn, you live and learn. - Drake Tables continue to turn at BMO Field. That is sports. Yet, as another bridge burns you have to wonder just how much living and learning the club is doing. ' ' '

Langishing in 11th place -- six points above the relegation zone -- Milan announced the move on its website. Former Milan players Clarence Seedorf and Filippo Inzaghi were reportedly the leading candidates to replace Allegri on a full-time basis. The 37-year-old Seedorf is currently playing for Botafogo in Brazil while the 40-year-old Inzaghi is coaching Milans youth squad. Seedorf has an escape clause in his contract that would let him leave Botafogo without any penalty as long as he doesnt play for another club. Milan has won only five of 19 matches this season and Allegri had already announced over the winter break that he would leave at the end of the season. But the loss to Sassuolo, which got four goals from teenage forward Domenico Berardi, hastened his departure. The Sassuolo game marked the debut of recently signed forward Keisuke Honda, and Milan was hoping that the Japan international would lead the squad to a second-half surge the way Mario Balotelli did last season. But as soon as the match ended, Milan general manager Barbara Berlusconi said the loss highlighted the neeed for urgent change. Colorado Avalanche Gear. Allegri took over Milan in 2010 and won Serie A in his first season then finished second and third the past two years. Still, he never became a favourite of club owner Silvio Berlusconi. The only other trophy Allegri won with Milan was the 2011 Italian Super Cup. However, Milan was the only Italian club to reach the knockout stage of this seasons Champions League, and will face Atletico Madrid next month. The 53-year-old Tassotti is a long-time Milan assistant who had a 17-year playing career with the club. Milans next match is against Serie B side Spezia on Wednesday in the Italian Cup. Then on Sunday, the Rossoneri face fifth-place Hellas Verona. Both matches are at the San Siro. There has also been speculation that Milan would like to sign Italy coach Cesare Prandelli, whose contract with the national team expires after this years World Cup. Allegris contract was due to expire at the end of this season. Its the seventh coaching change in Serie A this season. The other coaches fired were Fabio Liverani (Genoa), Rolando Maran (Catania), Delio Rossi (Sampdoria), Giuseppe Sannino (Chievo Verona), Vladimir Petkovic (Lazio) and Stefano Pioli (Bologna). An eighth manager, Davide Nicola, was fired by Livorno later Monday. ' ' '

MARCOUSSIS, France -- Canadian coach Francois Ratier has made five changes to his starting roster to face Samoa on Tuesday (TSN, 10:45am et/7:45am pt) at the IRB Womens Rugby World Cup. Rene Robert Jersey . The Canadian women opened the 12-team tournament with a 31-5 victory over Spain last Friday. Samoa was thumped 65-3 by England in the other Pool A game. Canada will also be looking to pile up the points on the Pacific Islanders before its expected showdown with England for first place in the group. The three pool winners and the best-placed runner-up advance to the semifinals. "From their game against England we know that theyre an incredibly physical team and strong in the tackle area and we need to match them physically to be successful on Tuesday," Ratier said of Samoa in a statement. Ratier has replaced his entire front row with Marie-Pier Pinault-Reid, Mary-Jane Kirby and Olivia DeMerchant coming in for Laura Russell, Kim Donaldson and Hilary Leith. Jacey Murphy starts at blindside flanker for Barbara Mervin, who is out of the tournament after breaking a bone in her hand against Spain. There is just one change in the backs with winger Brittany Waters replacing Julianne Zussman. Resting the front row against the rough-and-tumble Samoans will preserve the trio for the crucial test against England on Saturday. And by keeping the backline mostly intact, Ratier retains his offensive weapons for the hunt for points against Samoa. Cindy Nelles has joined the squad to replace Mervin but will not dress Tuesday. "The team has a great energy right now and, other than Barbara, theres no serious injuries, so I think were ready to face Samoa on Tuesday and play a strong game," said Ratier. ---- Canada Roster against Samoa Marie-Pier Pinault-Reid, Club de Rugby Quebec, Quebec City; Mary-Jane Kirby, Highland RFC, Brampton, Ont.; Olivia DeMerchant, Woodstock Wildmen, Mapledale, N.B.; Maria Samson, Calgary Hornets, Calgary; Latoya Blackwood, St. Anne de Bellevue, Montreal; Jacey Murphy, Aurora Barbarians, Alliston, Ont.; Karen Paquin, Club de Rugby Quebec, Quebec City; Kelly Russell (capt.), Toronto Nomads, Bolton, Ont.; Stephanie Bernier, Club de Rugby Quebec, Quebec City; Quebec; Emily Belchos, Markham Irish RFC, Barrie, Ont.; Brittany Waters, Meraloma Athletic Club, Vancouver; Andrea Burk, Capilano RFC, North Vancouver; Mandy Marchak, Capilano RFC, Winnipeg; Magali Harvey, Club de Rugby Quebec, Quebec City; Elissa Alarie, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Rugby Club, Trois-Rivieres, Que. Kaymer missed only two fairways. He putted for birdie on all but one hole. And the former PGA champion finished with four straight birdies to become only the fourth player to shoot 9-under 63 on the Stadium Course at the TPC Sawgrass, giving him a two-shot lead over Russell Henley. Kaymer took advantage of a perfect day for scoring -- warm weather, hardly any wind and soft greens. There were 28 rounds in the 60s, which made the score by Adam Scott look even worse. With another chance -- his best one yet -- to get to No. 1 in the world for the first time, Scott finished with a pair of double bogeys from shots in the water and signed for a 77. It was his highest opening round at The Players since his first trip in 2002. Kaymer was flawless, hitting whatever shot he felt he needed. His final blow was a hybrid that ran through the ninth green and into a bunker, leaving a simple up-and-down for birdie. He had a 29 on the back, the first player in the 32-year history at Sawgrass to break 30 on either nine. Roberto Castro also opened with a 63 last year. The only others with 63 were Greg Norman in the first round in 1994, and Fred Couples in the third round in 1992. "Its just a nice bonus," Kaymer said. "Its only the first round of a long, long tournament. Its nice to make some history. No one shot 29 on that golf course before." Kaymer would not have seemed like a good candidate. He has not won since the HSBC Champions in Shanghai at the end of 2011. He hasnt had a top 10 all year. But the 29-year-old German has felt his swing start to come together in recent weeks. His name has been featured on leaderboards more and more. And he had a simple explanation. "I stopped thinking," Kaymer said, a former world No. 1. "I thought a lot the last two years about swing changes ... that every shot I made I reflect on it, what I did wrong, what I did right." A few weeks before the Masters, he spent time with longtime swing coach Gunter Kessler in Phoenix, and then they had another good session in Germany. "And then it just clicked a little bit,"t; he said. Henri Jokiharju Jersey. "I thought, OK, I know I can hit pretty much every shot when I needed to hit it. If its a draw, if its a fade, low or high, I know that I can do it. Its just a matter of getting the confidence on the golf course and then letting it happen and really doing it." Henley, who won the Honda Classic in a four-way playoff in March, made birdie on half of his holes to atone for one big mistake. He hooked a tee shot into the water on No. 7 and compounded that with a three-putt for double bogey. But he answered with six birdies on the back nine for a 65. "I knew I was playing well and felt really comfortable on the greens," Henley said. "But it was one of those back nines where you get to 18 and I just realized that I had a putt for 7 under. So that was pretty cool." Bae Sang-Moon had a 66. The group at 67 included Sergio Garcia, who spent last year in a war or words with Tiger Woods that lasted right up until the Spaniard hit three balls into the water on the two closing holes and Woods walked away with the win. Garcia looked sharp, happy and was confident in his game. And he had loads of company. Lee Westwood, 20-year-old Jordan Spieth and U.S. Open champion Justin Rose also were at 67. The group at 68 included Ernie Els and Dustin Johnson. There were 67 rounds under par, and the scoring average of 71.99 was the eighth-lowest for an opening round at The Players Championship. But it wasnt easy for everyone. Rory McIlroy made three bogeys over his last seven holes and tumbled to a 70. That was nearly as bad as Phil Mickelson. Coming off a 76 in the final round at Quail Hollow last week, he started his round by missing a 3-foot par putt and shot 75. Of the four players with a mathematical chance to reach No. 1, only Masters champion Bubba Watson broke 70. He had a 69, while Henrik Stenson and Matt Kuchar each had a 71. Only four players had a worse score than Scott. Kaymer reached No. 1 three years ago, and then sought to change his swing because he could only hit a fade. He prefers to play by feel, not by mechanics. A swing change left him little choice but to think too much. Now, he can only hope its as simple as see the shot and hit the ball. ' ' '

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork. Cheap Flames Jerseys .com) - Cam Talbot made 28 saves and the surging New York Rangers went into Staples Center and beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in a rematch of last years Stanley Cup Finals. The Kings led 2-0 early on a pair of first-period goals, but New York scored four straight to claim control. Justin Williams second goal of the game with 4:03 remaining made it a one-goal game and LA went on a power play following Rick Nashs tripping penalty with 36 seconds left, but Talbot turned aside the only shot he saw before the final horn sounded. You never want to start a game like that, but its a credit to the guys, said Talbot. They showed a lot of character in coming back. Dan Boyle, Kevin Klein, Lee Stempniak and Martin St. Louis lit the lamp for New York, winners in four straight and 12 of its last 13 games. The Kings, meanwhile, are trending the opposite direction having lost four of five. Williams scored twice and Tanner Pearson found the back of the net while Jonathan Quick was responsible for all four goals on 26 shots. You cant give up four goals in a game and expect to win, ever, said Kings coach Darryl Sutter. Derick Brassard won a faceoff back to Boyle midway through the first period, and Boyles slap shot beat Quick and had New York within a goal. The Rangers then erupted for three goals in the second. Kleins wrister from the point found its way past a screened Quick 2:31 into the period. Just 19 seconds later, Stempniak won a scrum behind the net, skated free and fired one in to make it 3-2. St. Louis potted the eventual game-winning marker on a power play with 8:17 gone in the second. Brassard and Boyle had shots denied by Quick, but St. Louis had an open net to work with on his rebound. Late in the third, Williams batted the puck out of the air and past Talbot to result for the final margin. Early on, the defending Stanley Cup champs got goals 1:37 apart early in the first period. Jeff Carter led a 2-on-1 break and dropped a pass off to a cutting Pearson, who tapped in the games first goal. Williams made it 2-0 with a slapper from the right circle that deflected off Talbots glove. Game Notes The Kings won the 2014 Stanley Cup in five games ... LA went 0-for-4 on the power play ... Talbot has won four of his last five starts. He has three shutouts during that stretch. Fake Flames Jerseys . Belfort was originally schedule to fight Chris Weidman at UFC 173 on May 24, but a Nevada State Athletic Commission ban on testosterone replacement therapy forced the former light heavyweight champ to withdraw. Kevin Shattenkirk and Alexander Steen scored in the shootout to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win over the Islanders on Saturday following a puzzling goal reversal call in overtime. After T.J. Oshie tied it for the Blues with 27 seconds left in regulation, Thomas Vanek appeared to score the winner for the Islanders on the power play with 1:15 left in overtime -- but the play was overturned on review at the NHL offices in Toronto. The puck hit Vaneks skate blade and dribbled past Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak, but a distinct kicking motion that usually negates goals wasnt apparent. "I thought it was a terrible call," Vanek said. "I think we all know what a kicking motion is. My skate never elevated, it was on the ice the whole time. I dont know if its because who we are. I think if thats Pittsburgh or some of those top teams, its maybe a goal. "For that to be overturned is just too bad." Islanders coach Jack Capuano wouldnt be drawn into the controversy -- but knew what he saw. "The referees made the right call on the ice," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "Then they must have seen something in Toronto that was conclusive." Added Blues coach Ken Hitchcock: "They arent going to make a mistake when it goes to Toronto." The Islanders had an early 2-0 lead for the second straight game. And again, they found themselves tied and in a battle. The Islanders (21-25-8) have led by two or more goals 15 times in 54 games this season -- and are 6-4-5 in those contests. Matt Martin put the Islanders ahead 3-2 midway through the second period. The home team was almost able to withstand the Blues relentless pressure in the games closing minutes. Earlier in the period, Oshies shot hit both posts but didnt cross the goal line behind Islanders goalie Kevin Poulin. Vanek and Kyle Okposo scored in the first for the Islanders, who lost for the fifth time in 15 games. Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice for the Blues. Poulin made a number of acrobatic saves for New York, with hiss best being a point-blank pad save on Blues leading scorer Steen midway through the second. Flames Jerseys 2021. He also denied Steen and Oshie during a power play midway through the third. But the Blues (35-11-5) wouldnt quit, leaving Hitchcock pleased. "This was good, gritty road win," he said. "I like the way the team played in the third period." Vanek opened the scoring at 4:01 of the first, slapping the puck by Halak for his 19th of the season. Vanek has points in 17 of his last 19 games with nine goals and 16 assists during the stretch. The 30-year-old left wing was acquired from Buffalo on Oct. 27 for Matt Moulson and two high draft picks. The line of Vanek, John Tavares and Kyle Okposo was at it again at 15:11 when Okposo jammed the puck past Halak for his 22nd goal of the year. Fans at Nassau Coliseum also chanted "U-S-A! U-S-A!" for Okposo, who wasnt picked for the U.S. team for the Winter Games next month in Russia even though hes having a breakout season. Okposo already has a career-high 54 points. Tarasenko cut the margin in half at 17:17 of the first, beating Poulin high from about 30 feet out. The 22-year-old right wing scored again at 1:17 of the second, his 17th goal this season. He hit the left post late in second and had a golden chance midway through the third when his rebound shot appeared to hit both posts without going into the net. The Blues won the previous meeting this season, 5-1 at the Scottrade Center on Dec. 5. They were completing visits to all three local teams. They defeated the Rangers 2-1 on Thursday after losing 7-1 in Newark to the Devils. "This a great way to end the trip with a bonus point," Oshie said. "We found a way to battle back and well have a fun ride home." NOTES: The Blues host the Devils on Tuesday. St. Louis is 16-3-1 against the East this season. They are 40-10-6 against the East since 2010-11, league-best intra-conference play. ... The Islanders are 19-6-3 when they score at least three goals and are 2-19-5 when they do not. ... Ten members of the Blues will represent their countries at the Olympics, tying Chicago and Detroit for the most among NHL teams. ' ' '

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil -- Brazil advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday with a 3-2 shootout win over Chile following a tense and thrilling battle that ended 1-1 after extra time. Bobo Wilson Jersey Store . Neymar, David Luiz and Marcelo scored in the shootout, and Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar saved two penalties before watching Gonzalo Jaras final attempt hit the post. "My teammates are giving me a lot of strength on the field so I give my best," Cesar said. "Were just three steps away and I hope to give another interview with Brazil partying." Brazil, which extended its 39-year unbeaten streak in home competitive matches to 61, will next face either Colombia or Uruguay in the quarterfinals. Neither team managed to score at the Mineirao Stadium after first-half goals from Luiz and Sanchez, but Brazil came close to an early exit when Mauricio Pinillas shot hit the crossbar in the final moments of extra time. Chile also had the best chance in the second half, when Cesars spectacular save on Charles Aranguizs shot kept the score even. Brazil has reached the quarterfinals of each World Cup since Argentina eliminated it in the second round in 1990. Getting knocked out at that stage in its own World Cup would have been a disaster. But the Brazilians overcame their nerves in the shootout, with Neymar scoring the final penalty after Cesar stopped spot kicks from Pinilla and Sanchez. When Jara hit the post, some of Brazils players celebrated wildly while others fell to the ground, exhausted and emotionally drained. Willian, who missed a penalty for Brazil, sobbed uncontrollably, as Fred helped him to his feet. As the crowd roared, the Brazilian players joined hands in a human chain. The Chileans stood still, staring into the ground, wiping the sweat off their faces. "We tried to give everything, we tried to fight for a dream, and we didnt achieve it," Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal said. "But we gave all our effort on the pitch." Calling it a "harsh" loss, Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli said he had been convinced his team would come out the winner. "Do you think I can be satisfied with the result?" Sampaoli said. "Weve played a hard 120 minutes even if everybody was against us in the stadium." Brazil went ahead in the 18th minute after Thiago Silva deflected Neymars corner kick toward the far post. Luiz was given the goal but replays showed Chile defender Gonzalo Jara may have touched the ball before it went in. Brazil lost the lead when it failed to cope with Chiles aggressive pressure in a throw-in situation deep inside Brazils half of the field. Eduardo Vargas intercepted Hulks pass and found Sanchez on the right side of the area. The Barcelona striker scored easily with a shot toward the far post. Neymar, Fred and Dani Alves had chances in the first half while a second-half goal from Hulk was disallowed when referee Howard Webb ruled he handled the ball. Chile has never beaten Brazil in Brazil but was hoping for another upset after eliminating defending champion Spain in the group stage. "We played the toughest opponents in the tournament, Spain, Holland, Brazil, and we never played like a team that was weaker than anyone else," said Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who blocked Hulks attempt in the shootout and watched Willians shot go wide. "The truth is that we are very sad because we could have won the match before, we should have taken advantage of some good chances," Bravo said. "We felt we could win and we didnt." Lew Reeve Jersey Store . DArnaud hit one of three doubles for the Mets as they took a 4-0 lead in the first. Then the catchers seventh home run of the season broke the game open in the fifth. "Im not in a rush. This will be my last contract, so I want to do it right," said Burris on Thursday.DETROIT - Max Scherzer was finally willing to do a bit of scoreboard watching. For the Detroit Tigers, a fourth straight AL Central title is within reach.Ive said the whole time Im not worried about what Kansas City does, and Im focused only on what we do, but this is the first time this season, I actually want Kansas City to lose, Scherzer said. That way we can come to the park (Friday) and win, and clinch it.Scherzer didnt get his wish a€” the second-place Royals won Thursday night a€” but the Tigers had already reduced their magic number to two with a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Detroit needs more than just a victory to clinch the division Friday a€” but if the Tigers win and the Royals lose, the Central will belong to Motown again. The Tigers, who have already wrapped up a post-season spot, lead Kansas City by two games with three to play.Scherzer made it through six tough innings, Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer in the first and Miguel Cabrera added a solo shot in the fourth. Detroits bullpen, so often a problem this year, breezed through the final three innings without allowing a baserunner.Weve battled Scherzer pretty good through the course of the year, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. Hes got great stuff and we thought it was moving everywhere tonight. We had a lot of good at-bats and made him throw a ton of pitches. He still hangs in there.Scherzer (18-5) allowed two runs and five hits.Minnesotas Trevor May (3-6) allowed three runs and five hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked one.Martinez gave Detroit an early lead with his 32nd homer of the year. Cabreras 24th made it 3-0, but the Twins made Scherzer work. After escaping trouble in the second and fourth, the right-hander allowed a two-run double to Joe Mauer in the fifth.Scherzer struck out nine and walked four while throwing 116 pitches. He had good stuff. I think he was a little erratic at times withh his location. Ken Panfil Jersey Store. . As a result, his pitch count got up, Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. He worked out of a couple jams and then held them to a couple runs.Rajai Davis doubled home an insurance run for Detroit in the seventh.RELIEVEDDetroits maligned bullpen held on rather easily. Joakim Soria pitched the seventh, Joba Chamberlain handled the eighth and Joe Nathan finished for his 34th save in 41 chances.Nathan struck out two in the ninth and lowered his ERA to 4.89.Today was smooth. The results worked out, Nathan said. Was it my best stuff? I dont know about that. I threw pretty good.KEPT IN CHECKMinnesota has given the Tigers problems of late, splitting a four-game set in late August and taking two of three from Detroit earlier this month. The Twins scored 60 runs in those seven games, but they were quiet offensively Thursday.Mauer drove in Minnesotas only runs but also struck out twice.TRAINERS ROOMTwins: Minnesota does not expect 3B Trevor Plouffe to need surgery after he broke his left forearm Wednesday, but hes seeking a second opinion just to be sure.Tigers: Detroit RHP Anibal Sanchez was up in the bullpen briefly, but he didnt come into the game. Sanchez hasnt pitched since being activated Tuesday from the disabled list. He was on the DL with a pectoral strain.Ausmus says hed like to get Sanchez in a game soon, but its hard to find a good spot for what would be his first appearance since Aug. 8.I think he does need to get in there, Ausmus said. We were looking for opportunities the last two days. Im a little hesitant to throw him, first inning out of the pen, into the fire of a one-run game in the seventh, but we do have to get him in there.UP NEXTThe Tigers send Rick Porcello (15-12) to the mound Friday against Minnesotas Anthony Swarzak (3-2) on a night Detroit hopes will turn celebratory. The Tigers have not clinched a division title at home since 1987. ' ' '

LONDON -- France needs an unprecedented comeback to avoid missing its first World Cup in 20 years. Wholesale Air Max 270 . No European team has ever qualified for the World Cup through the playoffs after losing the first leg 2-0. Two decades after France failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup following a shock home defeat against Bulgaria, Les Bleus lost to Ukraine for the first time in the first leg by a two-goal margin. That means the odds are indeed heavily stacked against Didier Deschampss team ahead of Tuesdays return game at the Stade de France. The French players display was so poor on Friday that it led the French media to question if the national sides performance had been the "worst in history." To turn around the result, France needs to rediscover its attacking potency as Deschamps - who won the 1998 World Cup and the European championships two years later as a player, must decide who to play up front against an extremely well organized Ukrainian side. "Well need to have that bit of folly that will make for an exceptional match," Deschamps said. "Its up to the players to get into that mentality. But we also have to realize they wont play with 10 players at the back. We have to put them under pressure from the start and show a lot of determination and keep the high tempo going until the end." Flourishing in the Premier League this season, Loic Remy had a poor game on the right wing in Kyiv and could be replaced with Karim Benzema, meaning that Deschamps could keep Olivier Giroud as his central sriker. Samir Nasri had a quiet game and may be replaced in the playmakers role by Mathieu Valbuena. Franck Ribery will also need to raise his game with the national team to prove that he fully deserves the FIFA Ballon dOr. Ribery who struggled to make any meaningful impact in Ukraine, has been tipped to claim the FIFA accolade after helping Bayern Munich to the Champions League. "Obviously, Ukraine knew how dangerous Ribery could be," Deschamps said. "They were very aggressive toward him. They made a lot of fouls that went unpunished. Ukraine eliminated Franck. He had very few chances to take on his opponent one-on-one. There was always a midfielder around to provide back-up." With Laurent Koscielny suspended after his sending off, Deschamps has a major headache in defence and must decide who will play alongside Eric Abidal. With Raphael Varane struggling with a sore knee, Deschamps must pick between the inexperienced Mamamdou Sakho and Bacary Sagna. Sagna plays at right back for Arsenal but has played centre half before. "We were shaken over there against a very committed team who played at a very high level while we were average," Deschamps said. "We took a slap and the situation is favourable for them. It wont be easy. Were obviously not in a good position. We have to reverse the trend and believe in this now." After winning the first round of his duel with Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he scored the winner in Portugals 1-0 win over Sweden, Cristiano Ronaldo is hopeful he can again steal the show at the Swedish national stadium on Tuesday night. While Ibrahimovic failed to impress in Lisbon, Ronaldo dived to glance in a left-wing cross for his 44th goal in 108 international appearances, and almost added another when he headed against the crossbar late on. Portugal, which beat Sweden at home for the first time in its history, missed automatic qualification for a major international tournament for the third time in a row after qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 through the playoffs. "It was an important goal and it gave us victory," Ronaldo said. "We could have scored one or two more goals but this advantage gives us confidence for the second leg. Nothing is settled yet. Its 50-50." All four return playoffs matches take place on Tuesday, with Greece in a comfortable position following its 3-1 win over Romania in the first leg and Iceland having kept alive its hopes of reaching a first ever World Cup with a 0-0 home draw against Croatia. Several friendly matches involving European powerhouses having already qualified for the finals in Brazil are also scheduled on Tuesday, with England facing bitter rival Germany in Wembley for the showcase match of the evening. The Germans will be missing Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, Philipp Lahm and Manuel Neuer after coach Joachim Low decided to try "new tactical variations and personnel." Yeezy 350 V2 Australia Online . Jovanovski, the 2012 champ seeded fifth, will meet surprise Japanese qualifier Misa Eguchi on Friday. Eguchi, ranked 183rd, qualified for her first WTA main draw this week, then beat No. Air Jordan 1 Australia . Patrice Bergeron and Daniel Paille scored 20 seconds apart a few minutes after Stamkos was taken off the ice on a stretcher with a broken right leg, and the Bruins beat the Lightning 3-0 on Monday afternoon. http://www.discountaustraliashoes.com/cheap-jordan-1-fake.html .com) - One point guard will return, while another will sit when the Minnesota Timberwolves visit American Airlines Center to take on the Dallas Mavericks.ATLANTA - One team was motivated by the goal of dodging the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs. The other teams goal was resting its starters. The result was predictable. Chris Douglas-Roberts dribbled into the lane and sank a short jumper as time expired, and the Charlotte Bobcats overcame a 15-point deficit in the final period to beat the Atlanta Hawks 95-93 on Monday night. Al Jefferson had 27 points and 15 rebounds for Charlotte, which remained one game behind Washington in the race for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Gary Neal had 17. "Great shot," said Jefferson of Douglas-Roberts game-winner. "Great play. Great finish. Great win." Added Jefferson, referring to his role in the play: "Great pick!" Jeffersons turnaround jumper gave the Bobcats a 93-91 lead before Lou Williams answered with a tying jumper for Atlanta with 2.6 seconds remaining. Following a timeout, Douglas-Roberts penetrated and lobbed the soft jumper as the buzzer sounded. Bobcats coach Steve Clifford said Douglas-Roberts "made a great shot." Even so, the coach wasnt satisfied, especially with his teams defence. Charlotte has won seven of eight, but Clifford isnt satisfied his team is playing at the level he wants for the playoffs. "We didnt get the defence we needed out of the starters," Clifford said. "The big thing is to be playing well, which were not." The Hawks rested starters Kyle Korver, Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll the full game, and also held out starters Jeff Teague and Pero Antic the final quarter when the Bobcats made their charge. "Some of our young guys got great opportunities," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. "I think theres a lot to take from tonight." Mike Scott led Atlanta with 20 points. Shelvin Mack and Williams each had 13, and Teague 11. The Hawks spot as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference already was set, so Budenholzer was playing to protect his top players. "I think when youre in our situation, health and all of those things are a priority," Budenholzer said. Yeezy 350 V2 Australia. Added veteran Elton Brand: "We felt like we let it slip away, but guys got a lot of experience and that is important for us, too." By contrast, Charlotte still had much to play for. The reward for sixth is avoiding Miami in the first round. Washington beat Miami 114-93 on Monday night to protect its lead over Charlotte in the race for sixth and secure first in the conference for Indiana. The Hawks will face the Pacers in the first round. Douglas-Roberts had five points as part of the Bobcats productive bench. "We have a job to do," Douglas-Roberts said. "We did a great job of getting back into this game. Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour basically carried us up until that point. ... I feel like thats the least I can do to help these guys, the way they carried us the whole quarter." Atlanta led 50-44 at halftime and 80-65 entering the final period. The Bobcats opened the fourth period with a 19-4 run, capped by 14 consecutive points, to pull even at 84. Ridnour had all of his 10 points in the run, including the tying jumper with 6:07 remaining. Three free throws by Neal gave Charlotte its first lead of the half at 87-86. The Bobcats led 91-86 before Macks back-to-back baskets — a 3-pointer and short jumper — tied the game at 91. Kemba Walker had five points and seven assists in his returned for the Bobcats after missing two games with a sore right groin. NOTES: The Bobcats salvaged one win in the four-game season series. ... Former Turner Entertainment Networks president Steve Koonin was introduced in the day as the Hawks CEO and co-owner. Koonin will direct business operations and represent the owners in league meetings. ... Jefferson posted his eighth straight double-double. ... A young fan sitting on the front row and wearing a Hawks jersey was bowled over by Charlottes Anthony Tolliver. The boy appeared to be shaken up but quickly regrouped as he received high-fives and fist-bumps from Hawks players. During a timeout minutes later, he was presented player-sized athletic shoes which were too big to remain in his lap. ' ' '

"Every time he toes the rubber its a win," Reliever Cody Allen said. "I try not to think about it but today, Honus Wagner, hes the last one on the list that has played short at all -- so that one hits home a little bit," Jeter said. "But anytime youre passing guys that have had the careers that theyve had, its kind of overwhelming." Kluber (13-6) did not allow a hit until Jacoby Ellsbury doubled with one out in the fourth and struck out 10. The right-hander has allowed only one earned run in his last 31 1-3 innings over four starts. He has won six straight decisions. "Just stick with my same approach. Maybe just executing a little better," Kluber said of his recent success. Scott Atchison, Bryan Shaw and Allen each pitched an inning with Allen finishing striking out two to finish the five-hitter for his 15th save. Brandon McCarthy (4-1) lost for the first time in six starts with New York. He received a scare in the third when he took a liner off his right foot but he continued for 6 1-3 innings, yielding two runs and seven hits. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said x-rays of McCarthys foot were negative. TRAINERS ROOM Indians: Left fielder David Murphy was lifted after the fifth inning with soreness in the right side. He said his side has been bothering him the last week but got worse Saturday. He will have an MRI. ... Right fielder Nick Swisher was lifted for the eighth inning because of his troublesome right knee. Yankees: Catcher Brian McCann was placed on the seven-day concussion list. He was hit in the facemask by a foul ball Friday night in the third inning and was feeling foggy when Girardi pulled him for a pinch hitter in the sixth. ... First baseman Mark Teixeira missed a third straight game with an injured pinkie. He said it was too sore to play. UP NEXT Indians: Carlos Carrasco (3-4) will make his first start since April 25 for Cleveland, taking Danny Salazars spot. Salazar was demoted to the minors last week. Carrasco was 0-3 with a 6.95 in four starts before being relegated to the bullpen. He has a 2.30 ERA in 26 appearances. Yankees: Hiroki Kuroda (7-7) is 14-4 with a 2.48 ERA in 24 day games since joining New York in 2012. SLEEPING ON THE JOB Indians manager Terry Francona slept on the couch in the visiting managers office after Friday nights 10-6 loss that took nearly four hours. "I was out cold, man," he said. K-ZONE Kluber has seven games with at least 10 strikeouts this season, the most by and Indians pitcher since Dennis Eckersly did it eight times in 1976. NO FREEBIES McCarthy has walked three or fewer batters in each of his last 105 starts dating to 2009, the longest active streak in the majors. Querrey, ranked No. 61, is the second-highest ranked American, ahead of Johnson (64).BUFFALO, N.Y. -- If USA Hockey needed a reminder of how well Ryan Miller can play, the Buffalo Sabres goalie provided one. Playing three days before the U.S. Olympic hockey roster will be released, Miller made 49 saves to lead the Sabres to a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals in a six-round shootout on Sunday night. "Olympics or not, hes going to play like that no matter what," said Drew Stafford, who scored the Sabres regulation goal. "If Im picking the team, hes my guy, but Im a little biased on that end." Miller stood out as the Sabres were outshot 50-17. He stopped 12 shots from Alex Ovechkin before the shootout and then stopped him and five others in the tiebreaker. "That was worth the price of admission to watch goaltending like that," Sabres coach Ted Nolan said. "Very rarely do we get to see it live, and tonight he was sensational." Steve Ott scored the lone shootout goal as the Sabres improved to 5-0-1 in their last six home games after starting 3-12-1 there. Philipp Grubauer made 16 saves for Washington, and Troy Brouwer scored the Capitals only goal. Buffalo is 4-1-2 in its last seven games. "It feels good when they stay out and you get a win like that," Miller said. "Its nice." Washington controlled the majority of the play, registering 15 shots in the first three periods before adding five in overtime. "We made the right decisions with the puck, and the power play was working today, but we didnt score," Ovechkin said. "(Miller) was on top of his game and he carried them into the shootout and onto victory." Capitals coach Adam Oates had a hard time faulting his team after its dominant performance that didnt produce a win. "I cant really complain," Oates said. "Theres games that your goalie steals games for you, and I kind of look at that one as a game that their goalie did for them." Washington had the first 12 shots, and with 13:52 gone, Miller stopped Eric Fehr from point-blank range to keep the Capitals off the board. Buffalo finally put a shot on Grubauer with 4:23 left in the first. Matt DAgosttinis odd-angle snap shot was met with a loud cheer from the home crowd. Colorado Avalanche Gear. Grubauer said the lack of action didnt bother him. "Its OK," Grubauer said. "Youve got to face it shot by shot, and not look at different outcomes or how much time goes by. You just see it as a little break." Ott took a cross checking penalty 5:53 into the game, but Washingtons NHL-best power play couldnt take advantage. Miller made a shoulder save on a deflection by Mikhail Grabovski. The Capitals had a 15-3 shots edge in the first period. Grubauer stopped Grabovski and then foiled Matt Moulson with a left pad save in the crease off the ensuing faceoff. Capitals forward Tom Wilson laid a heavy hit on Ville Leino late in the second period, and Marcus Foligno challenged him to a fight. Foligno was given an instigator penalty and 10-minute misconduct, putting Washingtons power play back on the ice. Despite being outshot 30-10, Buffalo took a 1-0 lead when Stafford tapped in Christian Ehrhoffs rebound with 1:42 left in the second. "Christians shot was an easy little wrister, and those are the ones that find their way through," Stafford said. Grubauer made a glove save on DAgostini moments later to keep the Capitals deficit at one goal. Washington tied it off a giveaway by Ott 5:34 into the third period. Brouwers slap shot beat Miller over the right shoulder. "Ott tried to backhand the puck, and it just slipped off the backhand of his stick," Nolan said. "When he makes a mistake its not because hes not trying. It was a bad bounce for us." Miller returned to form over the next few minutes, including three successive saves from a prone position. "Hes the best goalie in the league, and I dont say that lightly by any means," Ott said. "The team didnt steal the game, Ryan Miller stole that game for us." NOTES: Brooks Laich sat out a second consecutive game and for the 13th time in 14 games because of a groin injury. ... The Sabres used the same lineup from Fridays shootout loss in Toronto. ... COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Derick Brassard and Derek Stepan scored third-period goals, and Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves to lead the New York Rangers to a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. Wholesale Air Max 720 . It was the first game back in Columbus for Rangers star Rick Nash, the Blue Jackets franchise leader in goals, assists and games. He was given a standing ovation during a video tribute in the first period, but was booed loud and long after a second-period, two-handed shove up high on Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Carl Hagelin added an empty-net goal, and defenceman Anton Stralman had two assists for the Rangers, who moved two points ahead of the Blue Jackets in the tight Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference playoff races. Nick Foligno scored for Columbus, 7-2-2 in its last 11 games. Bobrovsky made 29 saves. Both teams came in with 78 points, the third most in the Metropolitan. The Blue Jackets have played one fewer game. After two scoreless periods, Columbus took a 1-0 lead when Foligno intercepted Benoit Pouilots pass and scored his 18th goal of the season with a wrist shot from the high slot at 1:12. Just 44 seconds later, the Rangers countered when Ryan McDonagh carried the puck along the back wall and then fed Stepan for his 14th goal. With 8:29 left, Brassard -- who played his first five NHL seasons with the Blue Jackets -- took a pass along the back wall from Stralman and flipped the puck between his legs to the doorstep. Brassard then pivoted and jammed a shot in off Bobrovskys pad. Nash, then the Blue Jackets captain, requested a trade in early 2012 and was finally dealt on July 23, 2012. Nash was sent along with a minor-league defenceman and a 2013 third-round draft pick to the Rangers for centres Artem Anisimov and Brandon Dubinsky, defenceman Tim Erixon and a 2013 first-round pick (Kerby Rychel). Nash is Columbus franchise leader in games with 674 (next on the list is 131 games behind), goals with 289 (by 169), assists with 258 (by 54) and points with 547 (by 230). Most of the capacity crowd of 18,513 gave him a standing ovation during the video tribute, although there were still some boos. All of that good will evaporated in the second period after Nash rushed the net and had a goal disallowed for interfering with Bobrovsky. As Nash went to get his stick, Bobrovsky picked it up with his stick and then dropped it as Nash reached for it. Nash then hit Bobrovsky high with both hands. That touched off five two-man scuffles and sent Nash to the box for roughing. When the cameras showed him in the penalty box, the majority of the crowd booed loudly. The crowd roared early when Nash was hit and dumped to the ice by rising young star, Ryan Johansen. Another time, Bobrovsky appeared to slip his stick between Nashs skates to knock him down. There was also a fight, some chippiness on both sides, and one two-man penalty-kill by the Blue Jackets. The Rangers had 30 seconds of a 5 on 3 advantage and got off two shots, but Bobrovsky turned both aside. In the opening seconds of the third, Nash held onto the stick of Matt Calvert for several seconds. That led to a fight as the crowd roared. Zdeno Chara scored with 13 seconds left in regulation after David Krejci tied it late, lifting the Bruins to a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday night in a game that saw Orpik taken from the ice on a stretcher.MINSK, Belarus -- Before Mark Scheifele got injured in early March, the Winnipeg Jets sat one point out of a playoff spot. A sprained right knee derailed any hope of making a run. Now Scheifele is healthy, and Team Canada heads into the playoff round at the world hockey championship with legitimate medal aspirations thanks in part to his progression. "Every game hes got better and better," coach Dave Tippett said. "Hes been good in the faceoff dot, puck control. ... Were going to need everybody to be a good team in the quarter-final, and Scheif, his game has improved every game we played." Scheifele assisted on Ryan Elliss overtime winner against Sweden, scored against Norway and is making use of his increased ice time. Along with the Toronto Maple Leafs Morgan Rielly and Nazem Kadri and the Calgary Flames Sean Monahan, the 21-year-old Jets centre is making big strides in Minsk. "You just gain experience," Scheifele said. "You play against different kinds of hockey. Its just kind of a matter of learning how to adapt to who youre playing against, what kind of competition youre coming against. Obviously just playing with and against the best players in the world helps." Each game is a new test for the young Canadian team, but Scheifeles journey to the world championships showed Paul Maurice something. Maurice, his coach in Winnipeg and an assistant to Tippett at this tournament, was impressed by how hard Scheifele worked to recover from a sprained MCL to be ready. At first, the coaching staff saw a player who hadnt experienced game action in more than two months. Then Maurice saw the player who was so vital to the Jets when healthy. "Hes responded like Mark does: He just got better," Maurice said. "He didnt play a lot in the (first) few games and kept working hard in practice and hed get his handful of shifts one night and show you something in each shift. Dave Tippett is really strong at recognizing that in players during games, so hes gotten more and more opportunity." Scheifele, who is expected to again centre the fourth line in Thursdays quarter-final game against Finland, had a leg up on Monahan going in because he had a little more experience. But he wasnt quite himself. That made Scheifele the 13th forward and his ice time dropped. The Kitchener, Ont., native played just 2:20 in the second game against Slovakia and then 2:34 the next one against the Czech Republic. A leg injury to Alex Burrows -- who practised Wednesday and is set to return against Finland after a two-game absence -- gave Scheifele another chance. His patience set up arguably Canadas biggest goal of the tournament, and he scored another to help ensure first place in the group. "I think every game I kind of get a little more ice, a little more comfortable," Scheifele said. "Every game, just getting my legs under me, and thats the biggest thing. I feel more comfortable every game, and I just got to continue that." The tests are just beginning for the world championship rookies, including 20-year-old Flames prospect Johnny Gaudreau, whose U.S. team faces the Czech Republic on Thursday for the righht to face the winner of Canada-Finland. Fake Air Max 270 Black. "Playing with NHL players and playing against NHL players obviously will help me in my game and help me develop as a player," Gaudreau said. "Playing college the last three years I felt this would be the best opportunity to help me become a better pro." Olli Jokinen, a teammate of Scheifeles with the Jets and captain of Finland, agrees wholeheartedly. "Everybodys goal is to make the playoffs and have a long run. At the same time with the younger players coming here, I think for them understanding the games like this. Its like a Game 7 in the playoffs," Jokinen said. "Having experience like that, its going to help you to get even better. And at the same time, for the younger guys, its an eye-opener, probably, too, how tough this tournament actually is." Tippett likes that his younger players get an opportunity to play in "real competitive, playoff-style games." Rielly considers it beneficial to work with three different coaches he didnt know before and thinks that itll help him learn quicker in the future. "You get a chance to kind of learn new breakouts, new power-play things," the 20-year-old Leafs defenceman said. "I think if youre trying to keep learning like that, thats always helpful. I think Ill be able to carry that back to Toronto with me." Scheifele and Maurice will be able to carry something back to Winnipeg, as well. The tournament is just another chance for the coach who signed a four-year deal and the Jets franchise forward to get better accustomed to each other after just half a season together. Maurice said hes still learning about Scheifele, but he has a lot to be proud of over the past couple of months. "What I really like is how hes handled the adversity of the injury," Maurice said. "When something doesnt go his way, he doesnt quit. He digs in and works harder and competes and then I also recognize that this is a learning experience for him. Over the course of his career hes going to have some adversity. "The question is how do you learn to handle it, and hes learned to handle it here with some pretty high-level hockey where he wasnt handed ice time and he fought his way through it and became a real important part of the team here." According to Jokinen, Scheifele followed the same path in his first full NHL season as he has at the world championships. As a result, he has a chance to be a major contributor for Canada now that every game is an elimination game. "It took him a little bit of time to get used to it," Jokinen said. "But once he started feeling comfortable, he was really good for us. Hes a highly skilled player, he can be the difference-maker every time when he steps on the ice." NOTES -- Tippett would not reveal which goaltender, Ben Scrivens or James Reimer, would start Thursday against Finland, which has no such dilemma thanks to the presence of a healthy Pekka Rinne. ... Defenceman Tyler Myers missed Wednesdays practice because of the flu bug thats going around the team. Tippett expects him to be OK to play in the quarter-finals. ' ' '

ST. Emmanuel Moseley Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Nyjer Morgan used his speed to get two key infield hits early in the game. His rare long ball provided an important late run. Morgan and Michael Bourn both drove in two runs, Josh Tomlin won his second straight start and the Cleveland Indians beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-5 on Sunday. "He always plays with energy," Indians manager Terry Francona said about Morgan. "We were looking for a way to get him in there today and Im glad we did." Morgan had an RBI infield single that rolled to a stop near the line between home and third before Bourn hit a two-run double as the Indians took a 3-1 lead in the second. Morgan also hit his first major league homer since July 30, 2012, an eighth-inning solo shot that made it 6-2. "I had to get something out of the infield today," a smiling Morgan said. Tomlin (2-0), who pitched just once in the big leagues last season after right elbow surgery in 2012, allowed two runs and six hits over six innings in his second outing this year. "The guys made the plays in the outfield and the infield, and thats the reason I won a game," Tomlin said. Cleveland took two of three in the series after entering with a seven-game road skid. "This is a tough place to play," Francona said. "Finding a way to beat them here is great. Ive sat in this chair too many times and been miserable." Matt Joyce homered and had two RBIs for the Rays, who went 1-5 on their homestand. Chris Archer (2-2) gave up four runs and eight hits in five-plus innings. "I think very simply put, were not playing the calibre of baseball right now that is a winning calibre of baseball," Rays third baseman Evan Longoria said. A three-run eighth pulled the Rays to 6-5. Ben Zobrist scored the first run in the inning when reliever Marc Rzepczynski made an errant throw to second on what could have been an inning-ending double play. Cody Allen allowed Wil Myers RBI single and hit Desmond Jennings with a pitch to load the bases. Yunel Escobar hit a sacrifice fly. "I had plenty of time. ... I rushed it," Rzepczynski said. "When I get those, I get super excited. Throw better sinkers to second than I do home sometimes." Bryan Shaw pitched a perfect ninth in place of demoted closer John Axford for his second save. Yan Gomes hit a leadoff homer that chased Archer during a two-run sixth that gave Cleveland a 5-2 advantage. Morgan reached on a bunt single off Brad Boxberger when a call was overturned on replay. Morgan advanced on a balk and wild pitch, then scored the innings second run on Mike Aviles sacrifice fly. Joyce hit a first-inning solo homer off Tomlin. Joyce, who is 6 for 12 with two homers against the right-hander, had an RBI single in the fourth. Cleveland threatened in the first but Michael Brantley was thrown out trying to score on Carlos Santanas two-out double. Santana went 2 for 3 with two walks and increased his batting average 12 points to .148. Brantley extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a third-inning single. NOTES: Francona tweaked his rotation for a three-game series at Toronto. RHP Danny Salazar (1-3) had his start pushed back to Thursday from Tuesday so that RHP Justin Masterson (2-1) and RHP Corey Kluber (3-3) can pitch Tuesday and Wednesday on normal rest. ... Tampa Bay RHP Jeremy Hellickson (arthroscopic right elbow surgery) hopes to resume throwing curveballs during bullpen sessions in a week. ... Indians 1B Nick Swisher was given the option by Francona to have a day off and took it. ... Rays LHP Cesar Ramos (1-1) and Mariners RHP Felix Hernandez (3-1) are Monday nights scheduled starters in Seattle. ... With the Rays road trip theme being "Woodstock," manager Joe Maddon looked the part from the 1969 concert, wearing a long-hair wig, sun glasses and tie-dye shirt. Bob Hayes Jersey . Pospisil, the seventh seed, saved match points in each of the last two sets before falling to the unseeded Dutchman. "I wasnt very happy with the way I was playing,"said Pospisil. Alex Smith Jersey . Having already locked up their fifth consecutive series victory, the Toronto Blue Jays will try to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays for the first time since 2010 as the clubs conclude a three-game set tonight. Vente Air Max 90 . The Blue Jays have slugged their way to a pair of victories to open this set, pushing their winning streak to an impressive eight straight games. Tuesdays 9-6 win gave Toronto a fifth straight series victory for the first time since Sept. 17-Oct. 3, 2010 and put the club in position to sweep Tampa Bay in a three-game set for the first time since Aug. 6-8, 2010 in Toronto. Toronto has homered in 10 straight games, with Edwin Encarnacion a big part of that surge. He went deep in last nights win to match a club record for the most homers in a month with 14. That equaled Jose Bautistas mark set in June of 2012. Juan Francisco and Adam Lind also homered, while Bautista went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Torontos 13th win in 15 games. "Everybodys having fun," Encarnacion said. "You can see it on their faces. Were playing great baseball." That also holds true for starter Mark Buehrle, who picked up his Major League- leading ninth win of the season last night. He gave up four runs -- three earned -- over 6 2/3 innings. Sean Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Wil Myers knocked in two runs for the Rays, who had won four in a row prior to this series. Tampa Bay starter Alex Cobb came into Tuesdays start with a 21 2/2 scoreless- innings streak. He stretched that to a club-record 24 2/3 straight frames before the Blue Jays finally got to him for a total of six runs over his five- inning outing. "He was really good, moving along really nicely and all of a sudden they struck," Rays manager Joe Maddon said of Cobb. Now it will be Chris Archers turn to try and tame the Blue Jays offense and he comes in having not allowed a run in his past two outings. Archer hurled 5 2/3 frames of two-hit ball in a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on May 16, then did not factor into Fridays decision versus Boston despite six scoreless innings. Archer scattered four hits and five walks while matching a career high with 11 strikeouts and throwing a personal high 119 pitches. Walks have been a concern for the right-hander as he has issued 19 free passes over his last five outings, but still comes in 3-2 on the year with a 4.11 earned run average. Archer, 25, is 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA in four previous meetings with the Blue Jays, beating them on April 3 after giving up two runs over six frames with seven strikeouts. The Blue Jays counter with Liam Hendriks, who made his Toronto and season debut with a 3-2 win over Oakland on Friday. The righty yielded one run on three hits and three walks, also fanning three in 5 2/3 frames. "I was given opportunities in Minnesota and I didnt capitalize on them," said the 25-year-old Hendriks, who played for the Twins from 2011-2013. "Now Ive got a different mindset coming into the season of just getting ready, getting aggressive and getting after guys early. "I think its paid dividends so far and hopefully I can continue this trend and stay up here all year." Hendriks, who was 5-0 with a 1.48 ERA in nine games this year with Triple-A Buffalo before getting recalled, faced the Rays once before while with the Twins and did not get a decision, allowing four runs over 5 2/3 frames in the start. ST. Jake Kumerow Jersey . LOUIS -- T.J. Oshie thought he got a bit lucky, but it helped the St. Louis Blues beat the Boston Bruins. Oshie scored 3:29 into overtime, jamming the puck in from the side of the net as the Blues won 3-2 on Thursday night. "It was a pretty lucky bounce," Oshie said. "It hit off me and went straight toward the net and I just started whacking and poked it in there. Well take the point for sure." Boston goalie Tuukka Rask didnt have much a chance on Oshies unassisted goal. "It hit Oshies skate and it hit the back of the net and it was on his stick and then he backed it off my pad I guess," Rask said. "What are you going to do?" It was the third straight home game that went to overtime for the Blues. Alexander Steen and Jaden Schwartz also scored for St. Louis, which blew a 2-0 lead in the third period as Boston scored in a span of just over 2 minutes. St. Louis also blew a two-goal lead Tuesday in a shootout loss to Ottawa. Boston had won in its last three trips to St. Louis, and this was the first Blues home win against the Bruins since Oct. 6, 2006, in a shootout. The last regulation win at home against Boston came on Dec. 18, 1999. "I think when you play Boston, I think its a great evaluator," St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock said. "It gives you a real good read on your competitive level. It gives you a great read on your execution under pressure." David Krejci and Brad Marchand scored for the Bruins. Steen gave the Blues a 1-0 lead with his 28th goal when he ripped a slap shot from the top of the right circle to beat Rask at 15:48 of the first period. Jaden Schwartz fed the puck to Steen, who has eight points in his last nine games. Schwartz made it 2-0 when he snapped a wrist shot from the left circle at 3:32 of the second period. The shot by Schwartz grazed the left shoulder of Rusk, who was screened by Kevan Miller. It was the 18th goal by Schwartz. St. Louis Jaroslav Halak stopped 24 shots in the first two periods before allowing two on the first seven shots in the third. "Our most competitive player tonight was our goalie," Hitchcock said. "I mean, the goalie was outstanding. He helped us a lot." Krejci scored for Boston on a wrist shot from the top of the slot at 9:16, and Marchand then scored on a rebound of a shot by Johnny Boychuck at 11:24. "I dont think I could have done anything different about those two," Halak said. "I think we responded the right way after they scored. We skated hard. We battled hard." The Blues went 0-for-3 on the power play, and are now 0-for-12 in the last three games. Boston is 7-2-1 in its last 10 games, and the Bruins dropped their first on the road in their last six games. "I thought our team played extremely well and probably deserved better," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "It was an unfortunate bounce to lose that game in overtime, but still a great effort from our team." NOTES: Hall of Fame inductee and former St. Louis Rams player Aeneas Williams dropped the ceremonial first puck. ... Boston captain Zdeno Chara was not at the game. He has left for the Olympics, where he is to carry Slovakias flag in the opening ceremonies. Defenceman David Warsofsky took his place in the lineup. ... Blues F Vladimir Sobotak (knee) and F Vladimir Tarasenko (flu) did not play. ... Boston D Adam McQuaid (lower body) did not play. ... Blues F Brenden Morrow played his 900th career game. He is the 47th active player to accomplish the feat. Ahman Green Jersey . -- Aaron Rodgers looked fine on the practice field Thursday. Austin Watson, Scott Ford, Filip Forsberg and Mark Van Guilder had the other goals for the Admirals (30-21-12). Scott Darling made 30 saves for his 10th win of the season.CHICAGO - Cubs fans got on their feet and roared, a rousing ovation for the person they hope will lead their favourite team to prominence.Joe Maddon was the man of the moment Saturday, and the reception for Chicagos new manager was every bit as warm as it was loud.Maddon is quite popular around town these days, particularly on the North Side. After all, many believe the long-suffering franchise is poised for bigger things and hes just the guy to lead them there.Bring on the expectations, he said. The Cubs did just that this off-season, signing ace Jon Lester to a six-year deal worth $155 million at the winter meetings in December. But the move that signalled they really were ready to accelerate their rebuilding project happened in late October, when they hired Maddon away from Tampa Bay.Never mind that they had already told Rick Renteria he would be back for a second season. The Cubs couldnt resist going after one of the games top managers. Now, hes got a team that features a three-time All-Star in Lester at the top of the rotations established young players such as shortstop Starlin Castro and first baseman Anthony Rizzo in the lineup and a line of promising prospects that the Cubs hope can help them end a World Series championship drought that dates to 1908.All that optimism aside, the fact remains — Chicago has five straight fifth-place finishes in the NL Central. The Cubs won just 73 games last season, although that was an improvement from 66 in 2013. And while prospects such as Javier Baez and Jorge Soler arrived at the majors, there are still big questions surrounding this team. Please hold us accountable, President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein told fans. Were trying to win. Were also continuing to try to grow the organization. That means were going to be throwing a lot of young players out there. We ask for your patience with them because its a process. But hold us accountable. Its not just the roster that has a different look. The long-awaited renovation to Wrigley Field is finally underway, a five-year, $575 million overhaul of a ballpark that turned 100 last season and the surrounding area.President of Business Operations Crane Kenney said the organization discussed playing a year or two at Miller Park in Milwauukee but decided against that. B.J. Goodson Jersey. The left- and right-field bleachers are being replaced this winter, but they wont be ready until May. The centre-field bleachers will also remain closed until then because of the construction. The team also said the left-field videoboard should be ready by April 5, but the smaller one in right wont be until May.Meanwhile, Chairman Tom Ricketts confirmed the Cubs bought several neighbouring buildings and plan to run them as rooftop businesses. He also said Sammy Sosa remains estranged from the organization and that some things have to change before he is welcomed back. Ricketts would not say exactly what those things are for the former slugger whose huge home run totals were tainted by drug suspicions. The Cubs arms are wide open for Maddon, a two-time AL Manager of the Year.He deftly guided several young Tampa Bay teams to contention in the AL East, leading the Rays to two division titles and a pennant in 2008, and his new bosses are looking for similar results. There are some differences.Instead of managing in a dreary stadium, he will be working at what he referred to as the finest cathedral in all of major league baseball — Wrigley Field. He will have to contend with more day games, which he acknowledged wont be easy for someone who is not a morning person. On Saturday, he faced a wide range of questions. One young fan wanted to know who will play third base — Luis Valbuena, Mike Olt or prized prospect Kris Bryant?Who do you want? Maddon said.Kris Bryant, the boy responded.Maddon praised Bryant as a wonderful young man who is a huge part of our future but said who plays third will be determined at spring training.Another fan asked if he would go for a shot and a beer. In fact, Maddon offered to buy a shot and a beer for everyone at his introductory press conference at a bar across from Wrigley. There was another question about his RV — the Cousin Eddie. Maddons interview with Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer happened outside the Winnebago at an RV park in Pensacola, Florida.Cousin Eddie is in Mesa, Arizona, near Maddons children and the Cubs spring training complex. He is not sure if he will have someone drive it to Chicago.Ill keep you posted on that, Maddon said. ' ' '
